Smooth Planes

Smooth Bottom

End and side adjustment of cutters. Cutters one solid piece of fine, high carbon steel well ground and polished. Bottoms and sides nicely polished. Inside of bottoms finished in glossy black enamel, frogs in red enamel. Lever cap polished, nickeled and buffed. Selected rosewood knobs and handles.

Smooth Planes are used for finishing broad, flat surfaces. They are short in length so that low spots can be reached if the surface is uneven. (1938 description)



Milled, polished bottoms and sides. High carbon, tool steel cutters, quick, easy depth and side adjustment. Bottoms enameled black inside — red enameled frogs. Tropical hardwood knobs and handles. Entire tool beautifully finished with nickeled and buffed lever cap. (1961 description)

Additional Notes:

On early models the number was cast into the body around the front knob and the knobs were made from rosewood (cocobolo). Later models came with a tropical hardwood knob. The manufacturer’s name and model number was stamped on the left cheek.
