The cutting iron is bedded at a standard angle of 20 degrees.

On early models the number was cast into the body around the front knob. The early models also came with a black-enameled body and a red cap. The knobs were made from rosewood (cocobolo). Later models were all enameled in black and came with a tropical hardwood knob. The manufacturer’s name was stamped on the left cheek.

Previous to 1956 the knob screw was hidden. Afterwards the screw was attached from the top of the knob.

By the end of the production run the depth adjustment knob was made of plastic.
