Jack Planes
Smooth Bottom
End and side adjustment of cutters. Cutters one solid piece of fine, high carbon steel well ground and polished. Bottoms and sides nicely polished. Inside of bottoms finished in glossy black enamel, frogs in red enamel. Lever cap polished, nickeled and buffed. Selected rosewood knobs and handles.
Jack Planes are used on the edges of boards for rough, heavy cuts and also the final truing up preparatory to jointing. (1938 description)

Additional Notes:
On early models the number was cast into the body around the front knob and the knobs were made from rosewood (cocobolo). Later models came with a tropical hardwood knob. The manufacturer’s name and model number was stamped on the left cheek.
